FAQ

Q: How many grades does your school have?



A: We have Kindergarten through sixth grade. To enter Kindergarten, your child needs to be five by September 1.





Q: Do you have a preschool?


A: Yes, the preschool is operated by Walnut Grove Christian School. We have a 3 and 4 year old program. The four year old program is M-W-F from 8:15-11:15 am. The three year old program is T & Th from 8:15-11:15 am. For more information call 412-469-3280.

Q: What are your school hours?


A: Children start to arrive at school by 8:00 am and go to the gym. Classes start at 8:25 am and end at 3:00 pm. If they are a half-day Kindergarten student the hours are 8:25-11:15 am.

 

 

 

Q: Do you have before and after school care for all WGCS students?


A: Yes, the hours are from 6:00 am until 6:00 pm every school day. Please call for more information and rates.

Q: Is there busing provided?



A: Yes and no. If your school district provides busing to their school, then they will provide busing to Walnut Grove. If your school district does not have busing, then you will need to find a way to bring your child to school.





Q: When there's bad weather are there early dismissals or two-hour delays?
 

A: Yes, two hour delays are called for inclement weather. Please look for Walnut Grove Christian School on KDKA, WTAE, or WPXI (TV or internet) for this information. There will still be Kindergarten on a 2 hour delay. Early dismissal's shall occur for inclement weather as well as planned school activities. Parents will be notified in advance, in writing, when possible. Parents should have a contingency plan in the rare event that it becomes necessary to dismiss students unexpectedly. Your child may use the Before and After School Program during these times. Call the office to let us know. (412-469-3280)

 





Q: What curriculum do you use?


A: We use the Abeka curriculum. This is an advanced Christian based curriculum which uses phonics for reading and a spiral approach for mathematics.

 

 

 

Q: How many students are there in each grade?
 

A: We will have no more than 20 students in a class. Our average students per class is usually about 12 to 15.

Q: Are there any special classes?



A: Yes, everyone has gym, music, art, and computer science class. We also have a Christmas program, Pinewood Derby and a talent show.





Q: Do you have a hot lunch program?


A: Yes, the students may purchase a hot lunch by turning in a monthly calendar with the days they choose to order a hot lunch. The days he/she does not order a hot lunch they will need to pack. They can also purchase milk or juice alone for the entire month.


 

 

Q: Do you have sports?
 

A: Yes, we have indoor soccer for grades K-6 and flag-football for grades 3-6.

 

 

 

Q: Do you have any other activities for the students?
 

​A: They can join a Bible Quiz team which is for students in grades 2-5. There is also a chess club for students in grades 4-6.
